A new Nebula flagship projector is coming at the end of May from Anker. The Nebula X1 looks very similar to the Nebula Cosmos Laser 4K that Projector Central reviewed back in 2022—with the same retractable-handle design—but has some significant updates.

The Nebula X1 is a triple laser, 4K (3840x2160) projector with 3,500 ANSI lumens. Like the Cosmos Laser 4K, the X1 works best as a lifestyle projector that can be easily transferred from room to room or transported to other locations (although it does not have a built-in battery and must be plugged into a power outlet). What makes the X1 unique, however, is a built-in micro gimbal that can tilt the optical engine and 14-element glass lens array up to 25 degrees. This, paired with the Nebula A.I. Spatial Adaptation auto setup and the projector's optical zoom capabilities, makes it easy to place the projector at various heights and be ready to watch quickly.

A 200-inch diagonal image is possible from anywhere between 13 and 22 feet away. By pressing a button on the remote, the A.I. Spatial Adaptation will scan the projected surface, adjust the image placement to avoid obstacles such as pictures frames or bookshelves, auto zoom, focus, and correct keystone, as well as adapt the brightness based on the ambient light and the image to the wall color (although we always recommend using a projection screen for any projector when possible). There's also an eye guard sensor and a memory feature to recall settings if the projector has been moved between viewings.

Another interesting new feature, especially for a projector of this size, is an internal liquid cooling system to improve heat dissipation by 15% and keep projector noise down to 26 dB from three feet away. For many of us, that's below the noise floor of our room.

The X1 has both ISF and TUV certifications, 110% coverage of the Rec.2020 color space, and a claimed native contrast of 5,000:1. It also supports Dolby Vision.

Running on Google TV OS, the projector has access to any app available through the Google Store, including built-in Netflix integration. There are also two HDMI 2.1 ports (one with eARC) for connecting any external sources, AVRs, or soundbars. There are four side-firing speakers and two passive radiators built in. A backyard accessory pack—priced at $999—includes two Wi-Fi speakers each with four drivers (two front, one side-firing, and one up-firing), two wireless microphones for karaoke, and a carry case for the X1. The speakers are IP54 rated and provide eight hours of battery life and can be charged with USB-C, while the microphones have a 40-hour battery life and latency of just 15ms.

The Nebula X1 projector will be available for purchase starting on May 21 for $2,999. When bundled with the backyard accessory pack, the price will be $3,298 through June 20.
