Markets extend gains; Nifty up 48pts

Markets have continued to gain. The Sensex is at the day"s high of 15,418, up 183 points. The Nifty is at 4,572 - down only six points from the day"s high. The index is now up 44 points at 4,568. Tata Motors has surged over 7% to Rs 365. Suzlon has rallied 6% to Rs 102. Maruti Suzuki and HCL Tech have gained 4.7% each at Rs1,358 and Rs 235, respectively. Tata Steel, ABB, DLF, Sterlite, Idea Cellular and Unitech have added 3-4% each. However, Ambuja Cements has dropped 2% to Rs 95. Punjab National Bank has slipped 1.5% to Rs 725. Reliance, HDFC, Sail and Cipla are down over 1% each. Meanwhile, the Sensex has surged to a high of 15,419. The index is now up 139 points at 15,370. The BSE Mid-cap and Small-caps have outperformed the broader markets. The former has added 1.5% while the latter is up 1.6%. The market breadth is fairly positive. out of 2,653 stocks traded 1,691 have advanced and 873 have declined.
