Britain’s data minister has announced a new data and AI research project

Data Minister Chris Philip recently gave a speech on the importance of data and artificial intelligence to empower innovation and drive growth.

Alongside the Alan Turing Institute and their policy pilot partners, the Minister presented a new research project from AI UK which will focus on deepening understanding of data justice and how data and AI can help citizens deal with global challenges.

To do this, the Minister of Data announced the launch of the second call for the Turing AI World-Leading Researcher Fellowships. The initiative will have approximately £20m of funding in two rounds, to support outstanding AI researchers to advance AI through cutting-edge research programs.

This project will be part of a strategic government investment to retain, attract and develop AI research talent; as well as establishing international collaboration on AI governance. The strategy aims to have a 10-year vision with overseas cooperation on using AI for good.

The UK’s approach to international AI governance will be available later this year.
